They found a full version of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" in Buenos Aires.

The original version was screened in Berlin in 1927 and then edited down to the shorter versions we know today.
In 1928 someone in Argentina arranged for the long version to be sent and after a few screenings it was acquired by a film collector and later given to a film museum where it's remained ever since until a new curator found it!

Apparently it's due to be restored and released on DVD next year.

The first shock waves caught me by surprise and I was like "what the fuck was that". A cupboard door popped open - the doors don't quite close properly so I had an elastic band round the handles and the rubber band had perished and snapped. The shock wave only lasted a couple of seconds and then I looked around the room, the curtains were sort of shimmering and (either from the shockwaves or maybe there were smaller shockwaves still happening) I thought my eyes were going funny, then a few seconds later the 2nd shock wave came. I saw the fucking walls shake. Shit! The 2nd shockwaves only lasted a couple of seconds and it was all over. Initial reports said it was magnitude 4.7 but it might be as much as 5.3 according to some reports. Fuck.

I attempted to refill an ink cartridge today and failed. Twice. I've done it before and managed ok. Not this time.

You have to stick a bit of tape over the bit at the bottom of the cartridge where the ink comes out. Then using a syringe you fill it.
After filling it with ink I realised it'd been leaking out of the bottom, the tape hadn't been secure enough.

So, I cleaned up the cartridge with loads of bogroll to soak up the spilt ink, then added a larger bit of tape over the hole. Then using a tissue as protection I gripped the bottom part of the cartridge to make sure the bloody tape stayed on. After adding some ink I realised the hand that was holding the cartridge was dripping with ink. Shit! How the FUCK had the ink come out of the hole covered with tape and gripped tightly. It's just a tiny bit of ink in a cartridge. It's not pressurised or anything. Why the FUCK does the ink gush out of the bottom even though it's securely covered with tape.

Now my hands have ink stains on them.

I may try and refill the cartridge another day. Maybe if I superglue the piece of tape in place?

It's been raining all morning but it seems to have stopped. Next-doors squirrel pulled down their bird feeder (little wire basket thingy with nuts in it hanging from a string) and I saw it drag it across the garden.

I made this as a place to bung links to random audio clips I upload.

My Opera was b0rked so I ended up reinstalling it. Thanks to Hugo for help and advice over MSN last night!

Recently it started "losing" cookies for forum logins meaning I had to log in again. It's supposed to stay logged in dammit The last straw was when it wouldn't let me log into myspace at all (some would say that's a blessing). I couldn't even get past the login screen (I tested it with the dreaded IE to verify that myspace was working correctly and it was). After deleting the cache and the cookies and the wand passwords it was still b0rked so I uninstalled it, deleted the folders with a few bits of chaff in that it left behind and installed the latest version. Didn't take long to customise it back to how I had it, the ballacher was logging into a whole load of forums, torrent trackers and the like. Luckily I have all my passwords written in a little book. Write them in a book, people, don't store them in a txt file on your pc, that's just silly.

This version of opera (9.21 build 8776) has the X to close a tab in the corner of each tab like my first version of Opera, rather than in the same place at top right like the version I was using previously. I prefer it in the corner of each tab although it's gonna take a bit of getting used to after not having it there for so long with the previous one I was using. Hugo will probably tell me I could have had the X in the corner of each tab with my previous version by changing an option or something.

One thing that they seem to have got rid of in this and the previous version I was using (unless there's an option I've missed) is that, oh, let me explain... I've visited a forum and have it open at "posts since your last visit". I don't want to lose my place so I'll just leave that page open so I can check on it for new posts later. Now I go to another forum, open about 10 threads in 10 tabs and start reading. When I close a tab, the active tab will become the page from the previous forum, meaning I have to click a tab from the 2nd forum to read it. With the first version of Opera I used I could deselect a tab meaning I'd deselect the tab from the first forum and I'd never be brought back to that tab while viewing the other forum. You can't deselect a tab any more (unless theres some hidden option, etc...)

I forgot to back up livejournal.css, it gets rid of the bar at the top of livejournal pages. Hugo, do you happen to have a copy to hand?

When I booted up the pc today my wallpaper was gone, the desktop was that strange green colour. I had to find the jpg and set it again. I'm hoping it's just connected with reinstalling Opera. Since I set the desktop wallpaper from within Opera, then uninstalled Opera, maybe the pc also deleted the desktop set with that version of Opera, or the file itself had been stored in an Opera folder which I deleted. Hopefully it's not XP that's falling to bits!

LOST
I just watched the Lost season finale. I couldn't go to bed until I'd watched it.
But, what the hell was on that bit of paper, who's funeral was it? I'm sure it never gave you a clear view of what was on the paper. Gahhh!
And it's bloody months until the next episode.
